Cross-functional teams
  • Challenge: business teams were interested in AI but lacked a shared vocabulary and problem statements grounded in real customer pain.
  • Six-month structured AI training across banking units, moving from concepts to applied practice.
  • Four-hour closing workshop translating customer pain points into validated problem statements.
  • Outcome: 42 participants trained and 6 cross-functional teams prepared for the internal innovation competition.
We truly appreciate that GenAI Fund collaborated with us so quickly to make this workshop happen. Despite the tight schedule and year-end rush, we ensured the contest stayed on track. The workshop gave participants timely skills to work in teams, generate ideas, and present them effectively.

Leadership Roundtable & Policy Exchange in Hong Kong: the Vietnam National Assembly Office delegation and HKU faculty standing together in the council chamber with folders after the 29 July 2026 policy exchange session.

Hong Kong & Chengdu — public-sector study visit

"Leading Through the AI Transition" — a four-day program for a National Assembly Office of Vietnam delegation led by Mr. Lê Quang Mạnh (27–30 July 2026), co-organized with HKU Business School and the School of Governance and Policy.

  • Challenge: the delegation needed a first-hand view of how other governments move beyond AI pilots — what to build, what to buy, and where human judgment must stay in the loop.
  • Sessions on China's approach to AI governance and the stages of digital-government transformation, plus a faculty lecture from GenAI Fund's Laura Nguyen on commercial AI in the public sector.
  • Chengdu session with the AWS public sector team, and a live Agora (NASDAQ: API) demonstration of real-time translation on delegates' own phones.
  • Site visits to Cyberport, Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks, and the Digital Policy Office's Smart Government Innovation Lab.
  • Outcome: alignment on responsible AI as a standing operational discipline, a clearer build-versus-buy position, and shared principles — data quality beats model quality, humans stay in the loop on decisions that matter.

Sime Darby Property Venture Building: Sime Darby Property leadership and GenAI Fund builders at the company headquarters at the start of a venture building engagement.

Sime Darby Property — AI construction-safety solution

As appointed Venture Builder for the Malaysia Cradle BIG Programme, GenAI Fund co-designed and implemented AI safety solutions with Sime Darby Property teams and startups, running computer vision on existing site CCTV.

  • Challenge: safety compliance across large, distributed sites could not be monitored consistently; manual supervision missed zones and shifts, and incidents were reviewed after the fact.
  • Phase 1 — co-design: problem framing with site operations, HSE and digital teams, then sourcing and screening computer-vision startups able to deploy on existing CCTV.
  • Phase 2 — build and validate: a time-boxed live-site proof of concept detecting helmets, safety jackets and restricted-zone entry in real time, with weekly accuracy tuning.
  • Focus areas: compliance and monitoring, worker safety, and predictive risk reduction using trend data on repeat violations by zone, shift and contractor.
  • Outcome: continuous compliance monitoring, less dependency on manual supervision, earlier detection of unsafe conditions, and a validated foundation for organization-wide deployment.
